Wabana : Series Concept
A gorgeous Japanese floral pattern blooming all over
The fabrics in this series are plain on the front and feature a floral pattern created all over the back using a hogushi-ori technique, expressing a Japanese image in a range of vibrant colors. The watercolor-like design, unique to unraveled weaving, gives a warm and bright impression.
Rain and sun umbrella | UV-cut umbrella
The fabric is water-repellent, water-resistant, and UV-resistant. In addition to being fully functional as an umbrella, this umbrella can also be used as a parasol, making it a versatile umbrella for both rain and shine. The UV protection and shading rates vary slightly depending on the color, but all colors have a UV protection rate of over 95%.
About the fabric
"Koshu-ori" is attractive for its lustrous sheen and solid feel
The fabric used is "Koshu-ori," which is intricately woven in Yamanashi Prefecture, a famous textile production region with a history of over 400 years.
Koshu-ori is a "pre-dyed" fabric made by weaving extremely fine yarns that have been dyed beforehand into a high density, uniform weave.
This has resulted in a glossy, deep color and an elegant, heavy texture, and the product still boasts high quality today.
The weaving technique that uses double yarn (twisted yarn) for the warp and single yarn (one thread) for the weft is characteristic of Yamanashi textiles, resulting in a fabric that combines luxury and durability.
The production of Koshu-ori fabric begins at a dyer's shop, where the threads are dyed, then goes through a warper, where the threads are arranged into warp threads, before being sewn into fabric at a weaver's shop.
The fabric is carefully woven over a long period of time, and is then treated to be water-repellent, water-resistant, and UV-resistant, before it can finally be used as an umbrella.
In this way, the fabric that has been made by many people is then cut and sewn by craftsmen to make into umbrellas.
Fabric woven on a rare narrow shuttle loom
Fabric woven on a small-width loom, which has become extremely rare among looms, is made by looming the weft thread with a shuttle and folding it back at the edge as it is woven, which creates selvedge at the edge of the fabric.
Since there is no need to sew a large piece of fabric to fit the width of the umbrella, there are no perforations, so it looks smart and stylish, and you don't have to worry about fraying even if you use it for a long time.
Also, because the shuttle loom moves slowly and carefully, making a clanging sound, it takes longer than usual to finally complete a piece of fabric.
Printed temporary threads and plain threads are woven together in a double layer, creating a "Ura-hogushi-ori"
The warp threads are made by doubling the threads woven using the printing pattern and the flat threads.
The weft threads are woven together to create a single piece of fabric. This is a precious fabric that can only be woven a few meters per day, as the amount of thread is large and the temporary threads are carefully removed so as not to affect the surface.
The front is plain and the lining is finished with a hogushi-ori, making this an umbrella that allows you to enjoy the difference in design between the front and back.
A different pattern is created for each color, and the warp and weft threads are temporarily woven before being printed. The pattern is completed by layering each color. The printing block process takes time as it is done by hand on all the long rolls of fabric.
About the handle
A round, tortoiseshell-like handle that's easy to hold
The handle is made from a combination of maple and acrylic.
The curved part that comes into contact with your hand is made of acrylic processed to look like tortoiseshell, and the part that fits together with the umbrella is made of natural maple wood.
The combination of the two and the brown tassel give the handle a somewhat retro feel.
With its rounded silhouette and beautiful color, the folding umbrella can be held securely just like a long umbrella.
