An umbrella for both rain and shine with a focus on hand-dyed texture, featuring a pre-dyed ragged weaving technique
A simple-to-open, top-less type folding umbrella made with Koshu weaving
This Koshu woven umbrella for both rain and shine is made using the technique of printing the design onto pre-woven threads. A printing mold is created based on the actual dye patterns, which is then applied to the pre-woven warp threads, and finally woven into the design using the ragged weaving technique. By gradually pulling out the pre-woven threads during the weaving process, the boundary lines become blurred, and the umbrella fabric is created with a seamless blending of two colors. The color variations, inspired by the natural colors of plants and fruits, result in a gentle brightness and hue that blends easily with modern fashion and lifestyles.
With the adoption of a top-less, two-stage umbrella frame, there is no need to break the ribs when folding the umbrella, making it easy to open and close. The natural design of the handle and the easy-to-use umbrella bag are also appealing, making this Koshu woven umbrella a comfortable and stylish model to use.
*Please note that due to the characteristics of the fabric, there may be slight differences in the design of the umbrella bag. We appreciate your understanding in advance.

    Iro Shizuku : Series Concept

"Iro Shizuku" has a beautiful dyeing texture that makes it seem as if the two colors blend together

A printing stencil was made with the actual dyed pattern, then the temporary woven warp threads were printed, and finally, the resulting pattern was expressed in a weaved pattern using the "loose weaving" technique in this Koshu-ori umbrella for rain and sun. By removing the temporary woven threads as the fabric is woven, the boundary line fluctuates, creating an umbrella fabric in which the two colors appear to blend together. The color variations incorporate the colors of nature, such as plants and fruits, and the subtle brightness and color make this umbrella easy to match with any lifestyle or modern fashion.

Rain and sun umbrella UV-cut umbrella

The fabric is water-repellent, water-resistant, and UV-resistant. In addition to being fully functional as an umbrella, this umbrella can also be used as a parasol, making it a versatile umbrella for both rain and shine. The UV protection and shading rates vary slightly depending on the color, but all colors have a UV protection rate of over 95%.

    About the fabric

"Koshu-ori" is attractive for its lustrous sheen and solid feel

The fabric used is "Koshu-ori," which is intricately woven in Yamanashi Prefecture, a famous textile production region with a history of over 400 years.
Koshu ori is a "pre-dyed" fabric made by weaving extremely fine yarns that have been dyed beforehand into a high density, uniform weave.

This has resulted in a glossy, deep color and an elegant, heavy texture, and the product still boasts high quality today.
The weaving technique that uses double yarn (twisted yarn) for the warp and single yarn (one thread) for the weft is characteristic of Yamanashi textiles, resulting in a fabric that combines luxury and durability.

The production of Koshu-ori fabric begins at a dyer's shop, where the threads are dyed, then goes through a warper, where the threads are arranged into warp threads, before being sewn into fabric at a weaver's shop.
The fabric is carefully woven over a long period of time, and is then treated to be water-repellent, water-resistant, and UV-resistant, before it can finally be used as an umbrella.
In this way, the fabric that has been made by many people is then cut and sewn by craftsmen to make into umbrellas.

    The traditional Koshu-ori technique "Hogushiori-ori"

The temporarily woven warp threads are dyed one by one with a printing stencil, and the colors are carefully layered and dyed.
The weaving technique in which a weft thread is set on a narrow shuttle loom and used to weave the fabric is called "hogushi-ori."
When the actual weaving begins, the temporary weft threads are removed and the threads are loosened by hand while weaving.
A distinctive feature of this technique is that the dyed patterns are subtly shifted, making them look like watercolor paintings.
Enjoy the warm and soft look that is different from prints.

In addition, narrow shuttle looms are extremely rare, and the weft thread is woven by beating it in with a shuttle and then folded back, which results in selvedge on the edges of the fabric.
Since there is no need to sew a large piece of fabric to fit the width of the umbrella, there are no perforations, so it looks smart and stylish, and another attractive feature is that you don't have to worry about it fraying even if you use it for a long time.

    Careful printing using a brush

In the unraveled weaving printing process, the colors are applied one by one to the temporary woven warp threads. By using a "brush" to dye, it is possible to express the shades and the detailed design of the printing mold, and to express the texture of actual hand dyeing. In addition, for this design, the dye will bleed if the printing mold is used repeatedly, so the dye was carefully wiped off the mold after each dyeing, and everything was dyed by hand.

    About the handle

Beech handle that is easy to hold and just the right size

The unisex size and curved handle allow it to be worn on the hand, giving it an elegant presence; just holding it will add class to your everyday outfit.
The wood is beech, which is characterized by its fine grain and soft texture, and is painted a brown color that allows the grain to show through.
The metal fittings are made of nickel with a satin finish (a process that adds fine lines). You can enjoy the high-quality texture while still having a matte texture.
