Nihonbashi - Long-established Japanese paper store "Haibara" x "Komiya Shoten"
We selected "Choyo" from the "Shugyoku Bunko" collection of traditional designs that have been passed down throughout the long history of "Haibara," which was founded in 1806, and made it into umbrella fabric with a different feel from washi paper to create a folding umbrella that can be used in both rain and shine. Choyo is a particularly popular pattern among Haibara Chiyogami, and since the blooming of chrysanthemum flowers marks the arrival of the fruitful autumn, it is imbued with the meaning of "a harbinger of good things." This umbrella is made with Koshu unraveling weaving, so unlike washi paper, the chrysanthemum pattern has a gentle, swaying look. It is an elegant masterpiece that combines a beautiful pattern that evokes Japanese tradition with careful tailoring by artisans.
Another attractive feature is the name band and umbrella bag, which allow it to be used as a long umbrella as well, so it can be used functionally even after being used in the rain.
This is being produced in limited quantities as part of the "Edo Tokyo Kirari Project" planned by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.

Haibara × Komiya Shoten : Series Concept
"Haibara" x "Komiya Shoten"
We have created an umbrella that can be used in both rain and sun in collaboration with Haibara, a long-established Japanese paper store in Nihonbashi. Haibara was founded in Bunsei 3 (1806) and is a long-established store with over 200 years of history. From the "Shugyoku Bunko" collection of traditional designs that have been passed down throughout that long history, we selected "Choyo" and "Kumiki" and sewed them into umbrella fabric with a different feel from washi paper to create a folding umbrella that can be used in both rain and shine. *This is being produced in limited quantities as part of the "Edo Tokyo Kirari Project" planned by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
Rain and sun umbrella | UV-cut umbrella
The fabric is water-repellent, water-resistant, and UV-resistant. In addition to being fully functional as an umbrella, this umbrella can also be used as a parasol, making it a versatile umbrella for both rain and shine. The UV protection and shading rates vary slightly depending on the color, but all colors have a UV protection rate of over 95%.

About the fabric
"Koshu-ori" is attractive for its lustrous sheen and solid feel
The fabric used is "Koshu-ori," which is intricately woven in Yamanashi Prefecture, a famous textile production region with a history of over 400 years.
Koshu ori is a "pre-dyed" fabric made by weaving extremely fine yarns that have been dyed beforehand into a high density, uniform weave.
This has resulted in a glossy, deep color and an elegant, heavy texture, and the product still boasts high quality today.
The weaving technique that uses double yarn (twisted yarn) for the warp and single yarn (one thread) for the weft is characteristic of Yamanashi textiles, resulting in a fabric that combines luxury and durability.
The production of Koshu-ori fabric begins at a dyer's shop, where the threads are dyed, then goes through a warper, where the threads are arranged into warp threads, before being sewn into fabric at a weaver's shop.
The fabric is carefully woven over a long period of time, and is then treated to be water-repellent, water-resistant, and UV-resistant, before it can finally be used as an umbrella.
In this way, the fabric that has been made by many people is then cut and sewn by craftsmen to make into umbrellas.

The traditional Koshu-ori technique "Hogushiori-ori"
The temporarily woven warp threads are dyed one by one with a printing stencil, and the colors are carefully layered and dyed.
The weaving technique in which a weft thread is set on a narrow shuttle loom and used to weave the fabric is called "hogushi-ori."
When the actual weaving begins, the temporary weft threads are removed and the threads are loosened by hand while weaving.
A distinctive feature of this technique is that the dyed patterns are subtly shifted, making them look like watercolor paintings.
Enjoy the warm and soft look that is different from prints.
In addition, narrow shuttle looms are extremely rare, and the weft thread is woven by beating it in with a shuttle and then folded back, which results in selvedge on the edges of the fabric.
Since there is no need to sew a large piece of fabric to fit the width of the umbrella, there are no perforations, so it looks smart and stylish, and another attractive feature is that you don't have to worry about it fraying even if you use it for a long time.
The "Chouyo" design is perfect as a gift
Choyo is a particularly popular pattern among Haibara Chiyogami, and as the blooming of chrysanthemum flowers heralds the arrival of the fruitful autumn, it is imbued with the meaning of "a harbinger of good things." This umbrella is made using Koshu loose weaving, which gives the chrysanthemum pattern a gentle, swaying look that is different from that of washi paper. This is an elegant masterpiece that combines a beautiful pattern that evokes Japanese tradition with careful tailoring by artisans.

About the handle
A round, tortoiseshell-like handle that's easy to hold
The handle is made from a combination of maple and acrylic.
The curved part that comes into contact with your hand is made of acrylic processed to look like tortoiseshell, and the part that fits together with the umbrella is made of natural maple wood.
The combination of the two and the brown tassel give the handle a somewhat retro feel.
With its rounded silhouette and beautiful color, the folding umbrella can be held securely just like a long umbrella.
名入れについて : Only small plates are available
-
2-way design that can be used as both a long umbrella and a folding umbrella
The umbrella bag that comes with this folding umbrella can be opened and stored in the bag like a long umbrella by undoing the button on the back.
After using it in the rain, you can tie up the umbrella with the name band attached to the outside and put it in an umbrella bag without folding it. It is the perfect size to fit in a suitcase, so it is also a great souvenir for people from overseas.
Since the umbrella can be put away immediately in the bag even while still wet, it is environmentally friendly and there is no need to worry about your clothes getting wet.
This is a functional folding umbrella that can be used as a long umbrella on rainy days and as a folding umbrella on days when it rains intermittently. -
You can carry your umbrella without having to fold it.
This folding umbrella is designed so that the tip of the umbrella fits into a groove in the handle, so you can carry it with the ribs extended.
This eliminates the hassle of having to fold up a wet umbrella, and you can store it away after it dries when you get home. -
Ribs and Shaft
The ribs are made of lightweight and durable fiberglass material. It has a moderate thickness and flexibility, so it is lightweight but strong against wind. It is also a rust-free material, so it is easy to maintain on a daily basis.
The center rod is made of aluminum.
It is a very lightweight material that does not rust and is therefore easy to maintain.
