OUR STORY
It's been almost a century since our founding, and we're still making umbrellas today.
From the beginning of Komiya Shoten to the present
The history of "Komiya Shoten" dates back to 1919 (Taisho 8), when the founder, Komiya Takamasa, moved from Otsuki City, Yamanashi Prefecture to Tokyo to begin his training. After 11 years of training, he opened "Komiya Takamasa Shoten" as a Western-style umbrella manufacturing and wholesale business in Hamacho, Nihonbashi in 1930 (Showa 5). The store was subsequently burned down during the war, and although the company faced many hardships, it managed to rebuild amid the burnt ruins in Tachibanacho, Nihonbashi (present-day Higashi-Nihonbashi), and has since continued to operate as "Komiya Shoten" to this day. The long-selling men's umbrella "Tachibana" is named after this place name.
Initiatives for a pleasant working environment
Komiya Shoten strives to create an environment where all employees can work comfortably, aiming to be a workplace where diverse people can thrive. These efforts have been recognized and the company has received the Tokyo Metropolitan Women's Participation Promotion Award and the Eruboshi Certification, and will continue to work to create a rewarding company.
