Nihonbashi "Haibara" x Komiya Shoten A topless folding umbrella made of Koshu weave that is easy to open and close
We chose "Kumiki" from the "Shugyoku Bunko" collection of traditional designs that have been passed down throughout the long history of "Haibara," which was founded in 1806, and used it to create an umbrella fabric with a different feel from washi paper, creating a folding umbrella that can be used in both rain and shine. Kumiki is a chiyogami pattern that was sold by Haibara during the Meiji and Taisho periods, and the unique fluctuation of lines in woodblock prints that combine various stripes creates a comfortable rhythm for the entire pattern. It is a pattern that Edokko people liked, with a sense of playfulness hidden within a geometric design.
The umbrella features a topless two-tiered rib system, so you don't have to break the ribs when folding the umbrella, making it easy to open and close. The natural design of the handle and the easy-to-put-the-umbrella pouch are also appealing, making this a model that makes using Koshu-ori umbrellas more comfortable and stylish.
This is being produced in limited quantities as part of the "Edo Tokyo Kirari Project" being planned by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.

Haibara × Komiya Shoten : Series Concept
"Haibara" x "Komiya Shoten"
We have created an umbrella that can be used in both rain and sun in collaboration with Haibara, a long-established Japanese paper store in Nihonbashi. Haibara was founded in Bunsei 3 (1806) and is a long-established store with over 200 years of history. From the "Shugyoku Bunko" collection of traditional designs that have been passed down throughout that long history, we selected "Choyo" and "Kumiki" and sewed them into umbrella fabric with a different feel from washi paper to create a folding umbrella that can be used in both rain and shine. *This is being produced in limited quantities as part of the "Edo Tokyo Kirari Project" planned by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
Rain and sun umbrella | UV-cut umbrella
The fabric is water-repellent, water-resistant, and UV-resistant. In addition to being fully functional as an umbrella, this umbrella can also be used as a parasol, making it a versatile umbrella for both rain and shine. The UV protection and shading rates vary slightly depending on the color, but all colors have a UV protection rate of over 95%.

About the fabric
"Koshu-ori" is attractive for its lustrous sheen and solid feel
The fabric used is "Koshu-ori," which is intricately woven in Yamanashi Prefecture, a famous textile production region with a history of over 400 years.
Koshu-ori is a "pre-dyed" fabric made by weaving extremely fine yarns that have been dyed beforehand into a high density, uniform weave.
This has resulted in a glossy, deep color and an elegant, heavy texture, and the product still boasts high quality today.
The weaving technique that uses double yarn (twisted yarn) for the warp and single yarn (one thread) for the weft is characteristic of Yamanashi textiles, resulting in a fabric that combines luxury and durability.

A rare textile that takes shape only after passing through the hands of many people
The production of Koshu-ori fabric begins at a dyer's shop, where the threads are dyed, then goes through a warper, where the threads are arranged into warp threads, before being sewn into fabric at a weaver's shop.
The fabric is carefully woven over a long period of time, and is then treated to be water-repellent, water-resistant, and UV-resistant, before it can finally be used as an umbrella.
In this way, the fabric that has been made by many people is then cut and sewn by craftsmen to make into umbrellas.
"Haibara" - A traditional design of Chiyogami paper, "Kumiki"
We chose "Kumiki" from the "Shugyoku Bunko" collection of traditional designs that have been passed down throughout the long history of "Haibara," which was founded in 1806, and used it to create an umbrella fabric with a different feel from washi paper, creating a folding umbrella that can be used in both rain and shine. Kumiki is a chiyogami pattern that was sold by Haibara during the Meiji and Taisho periods, and the unique fluctuation of lines in woodblock prints that combine various stripes creates a comfortable rhythm for the entire pattern. It is a pattern that Edokko people liked, with a sense of playfulness hidden within a geometric pattern.

About the handle
Beech handle that is easy to hold and just the right size
The unisex size and curved handle allow it to be worn on the hand, giving it an elegant presence; just holding it will add class to your everyday outfit.
The wood is beech, which is characterized by its fine grain and soft texture, and is painted a brown color that allows the grain to show through.
The metal fittings are made of nickel with a satin finish (a process that adds fine lines). You can enjoy the high-quality texture while still having a matte texture.

-
The fluctuation of woodblock print lines expressed with Jacquard
The unique fluctuation of lines in woodblock prints is expressed in jacquard weaving. To reproduce the subtle fluctuation in textiles, it takes the combined wisdom and skills of Haibara-san, the designers at Komiya Shoten, and textile manufacturers. The fabric, woven with yarn-dyed threads, has a glossy finish and a texture different from that of washi paper, but it has a gentle texture like woodblock prints.
-
An easy-to-use folding umbrella that doesn't require any folding
The umbrella has a topless, two-stage rib system, so there's no need to break the ribs when folding it, and it's easy to open and close.
Another attractive feature is the natural design of the handle and the umbrella bag that makes it easy to store the umbrella, making this a model that makes using Koshu-woven umbrellas more comfortable and stylish. -
Ribs and Shaft
The ribs are made of lightweight and durable fiberglass material. It has a moderate thickness and flexibility, so it is lightweight but strong against wind. It is also a rust-free material, so it is easy to maintain on a daily basis.
The center rod is made of aluminum.
It is a very lightweight material that does not rust and is therefore easy to maintain.
