Rain and sun umbrella UV-cut umbrella

The fabric is water-repellent, water-resistant, and UV-resistant. In addition to being fully functional as an umbrella, this umbrella can also be used as a parasol, making it a versatile umbrella for both rain and shine. The UV protection and shading rates vary slightly depending on the color, but all colors have a UV protection rate of over 95%.

About the fabric

"Koshu-ori" is attractive for its lustrous sheen and solid feel

The fabric used is "Koshu-ori," which is intricately woven in Yamanashi Prefecture, a famous textile production region with a history of over 400 years.
Koshu ori is a "pre-dyed" fabric made by weaving extremely fine yarns that have been dyed beforehand into a high density, uniform weave.

This has resulted in a glossy, deep color and an elegant, heavy texture, and the product still boasts high quality today.
The weaving technique that uses double yarn (twisted yarn) for the warp and single yarn (one thread) for the weft is characteristic of Yamanashi textiles, resulting in a fabric that combines luxury and durability.

The production of Koshu-ori fabric begins at a dyer's shop, where the threads are dyed, then goes through a warper, where the threads are arranged into warp threads, before being sewn into fabric at a weaver's shop.
The fabric is carefully woven over a long period of time, and is then treated to be water-repellent, water-resistant, and UV-resistant, before it can finally be used as an umbrella.
In this way, the fabric that has been made by many people is then cut and sewn by craftsmen to make into umbrellas.

The traditional Koshu-ori technique "Hogushiori-ori"

The temporarily woven warp threads are dyed one by one with a printing stencil, and the colors are carefully layered and dyed.
The weaving technique in which a weft thread is set on a narrow shuttle loom and used to weave the fabric is called "hogushi-ori."
When the actual weaving begins, the temporary weft threads are removed and the threads are loosened by hand while weaving.
A distinctive feature of this technique is that the dyed patterns are subtly shifted, making them look like watercolor paintings.
Enjoy the warm and soft look that is different from prints.

In addition, narrow shuttle looms are extremely rare, and the weft thread is woven by beating it in with a shuttle and then folded back, which results in selvedge on the edges of the fabric.
Since there is no need to sew a large piece of fabric to fit the width of the umbrella, there are no perforations, so it looks smart and stylish, and another attractive feature is that you don't have to worry about it fraying even if you use it for a long time.

Printed temporary threads and plain threads are woven together in a double layer, creating a "reverse weave"

The weft threads are woven together to create a single piece of fabric. This is a precious fabric that can only be woven a few metres per day, as a large amount of thread is used and the temporary threads are carefully removed so as not to affect the front side.
The finished fabric has a plain front and a hogushi-ori design on the lining, resulting in an umbrella where you can enjoy the difference in design between the front and back.

A different pattern is created for each colour, and the warp threads are temporarily woven with the weft threads, and then printed on top of that. The design is completed by layering each colour. The printing process takes time as the long rolls of fabric are all done by hand.

About the handle

Beautiful grain, natural wood handle

The handle is made of natural beech wood, which is characterized by its fine grain and soft texture, making it easy to hold, and is carved to match the silhouette of the umbrella and has a natural paint finish.
It matches well with the included ivory tassel, and grooves are carved into it to prevent the tassel from coming off.

  • A bouquet umbrella that also makes a great gift

The flowers, combined with the softness of the unraveled weave, decorate one side of the umbrella, making it look like a bouquet of flowers.
This umbrella is highly recommended as a gift to give to someone special, or to yourself, to express your heartfelt gratitude.

With a large, lightweight 60cm carbon rib, this is a functional long umbrella that is both stylish and cute.
Enjoy the combination of lustrous fabric and color unique to unraveled weave, and the beautiful tension of the umbrella created by our artisans.

  • Rokuro winding and dowel winding

The part that moves up and down when opening and closing the umbrella is called the "rokuro" and the joint part of the bone is called the "dabo."
The process of protecting each of these parts with the umbrella fabric is called "rokuromaki" and "dabomaki," and each part is carefully attached and covered to protect your hands when opening the umbrella and to prevent damage to the ribs, while also creating a traditional beauty and sense of luxury.
This is an old-fashioned technique that is time-consuming and therefore not seen much these days, but all of Komiya Shoten's long umbrellas are equipped with it.

  • Ribs and center pole

The ribs are made of the lightest and hardest carbon fiber material. It is a very light material, yet extremely strong and wind resistant. It is also a rust-free material, making it easy to maintain on a daily basis.
The center rod is made of aluminum.
It is a very lightweight material that does not rust and is therefore easy to maintain.
