We would like to introduce the new Koshu weaving series "Bouquet," which goes on sale today.
This is a rain and sun umbrella that is double woven with a loose weave, so that the front is plain and the back has a floral pattern.
The lining design is studded with mimosa flowers, which decorate the entire surface like a bouquet when the umbrella is opened.
The flowers are expressed softly like watercolors using the unraveling weave, and the soft, glossy colors combine to create an elegant and stylish umbrella.
Mimosa has many positive flower meanings and images, such as gratitude, love, and friendship, and is a popular flower to give to important people or those who have helped you, as a symbol of happiness.
This umbrella is perfect as a bouquet that can be used for a long time, and is also recommended as a gift for a special person.
"Ura-hogushiori" is a traditional Yamanashi weaving technique used on the lining.
The warp and weft threads are temporarily woven together, then a printing stencil is applied, and the fabric is carefully dyed in layers of color, one by one, before the final weaving is done in the "hogushi weaving" process.
When the actual weaving is done, the temporary weft threads are removed as the fabric is woven, which causes the dyed patterns to shift slightly, giving the fabric a watercolor look.
For this "Bouquet," we used a double layer of plain warp thread and a thread used for the pre-woven loose weave to create the unraveled weave on the back of the umbrella fabric, and then wove it together with the weft to create a single piece of fabric.
Because a large amount of thread is used and the removal of the temporary threads is done carefully so as not to affect the outer fabric, this is a valuable umbrella fabric that can only be woven a few meters per day.
The process of printing unraveled weave
A different stencil is created for each color, and the warp threads are temporarily woven with the weft threads, then the colors are printed on top of it.
Layer each colour on top of the other to complete the design.
The printing process takes time, as the long rolls of fabric are all done by hand.
The umbrella is made with a twill weave that brings out the glossy look that is unique to yarn-dyed fabric, giving it a formal and high-quality impression.
Because it is woven on a narrow shuttle loom, the edges of the fabric have selvedge, which means you can see a glimpse of the design on the back when the umbrella is closed.
The finished fabric is waterproof and UV-resistant, making it an umbrella that can be used primarily in the rain but also on sunny days.
The long umbrellas are lightweight, durable, and come in a 60cm size with large ribs, while the folding umbrellas are a standard ladies' size of 55cm and are 2-way.
Convenient 2-way name band
Koshu-ori umbrellas are thick because of their luxurious feel, so we tried and tested various methods within the company to find a way to make them more convenient and functional, and after considering several options, we decided to have craftsmen attach the name bands on the outside of our folding umbrellas in the standard way.
Since it can be carried like a long umbrella with the ribs extended, it solves problems such as the hassle of folding it when you go inside, or not wanting to fold a wet umbrella.
A specially designed 2-way drawstring umbrella bag
Furthermore, if you unbutton the back of the umbrella bag that comes with the folding umbrella, you can store the umbrella in the bag with the ribs extended like a long umbrella.
After using it in the rain, you can tie the umbrella up with the name band attached to the outside and carry it around without folding it and putting it in an umbrella bag.
Bouquet's umbrella bag is not only functional, but also designed to wrap around a bouquet of flowers, with a loose drawstring design.
When you tie the string, it looks as cute as a present, and when you put your hand through the string, it becomes a great way to carry the umbrella like a bag.
Whether it's a long umbrella or a folding umbrella, these stylish umbrellas will lift your spirits just by holding them and brighten up your rainy days.
In preparation for the upcoming rainy season, please consider using Bouquet, which can be used even in the rain.
