Women's parasols and umbrellas for both rain and shine : Series Concept

Sun and rain umbrella A waterproof parasol for both rain and shine

The fabric is treated to cut UV rays (protect against ultraviolet rays) as well as to be water-repellent and water-resistant. This is a rain and sun umbrella that can be used primarily as a parasol but can also be used as an umbrella in the rain. (If used for a long time in heavy rain, rainwater may seep through the umbrella fabric.)

    About the fabric

Gorgeous and intricate Shosoin textiles that exude eternal romance

The fabric is "Shosoin-re" which is a Nishijin-ori reproduction of the oldest pattern in Japan that is still preserved in the Shosoin Repository of Todaiji Temple.
This umbrella is waterproof and UV-resistant and can be used in both rain and shine.
The treasures stored in Shosoin, such as crafts and dyed textiles, are called "Shosoin Gire" (Shosoin cloth), and the patterns on them are called Shosoin patterns, and because they originated from treasures brought from Persia, China, and other countries, many of them feature oriental, intricate designs, exuding a gorgeous and graceful beauty. Among the patterns are seasonal plants and animals that were considered to be prestigious, and by deciphering their meanings, ancient Japanese customs and religious views can be conveyed.

    Nishijin-ori, a yarn-dyed fabric from Kyoto

This cotton fabric is woven using the Nishijin-ori method, a yarn-dyed fabric woven in Kyoto Prefecture. Nishijin is the name of the area in the northwest of Kyoto (Kamigyo Ward and Kita Ward), and the name Nishijin-ori is said to have come to be after the Onin War in the Muromachi period. There are a great many different types of Nishijin-ori, but they are characterized by their gorgeous patterns made with multi-colored threads.

    About the handle

    Lightweight, non-slip bamboo handle

This piece is made from bamboo, which is very familiar in Japan, and has a burnt finish.
It has many joints, which makes it less slippery when held, and it is hollow inside, which makes it very light.

    • Rokuro winding and dowel winding

The part that moves up and down when opening and closing the umbrella is called the "rokuro" and the joint part of the bone is called the "dabo."
The process of protecting each of these parts with the umbrella fabric is called "rokuromaki" and "dabomaki," and each part is carefully attached and covered to protect your hands when opening the umbrella and to prevent damage to the ribs, while also creating a traditional beauty and sense of luxury.
This is an old-fashioned technique that is time-consuming and therefore not seen much these days, but all of Komiya Shoten's long umbrellas are equipped with it.

    • Ribs and center pole

The ribs are made of steel (iron that has been heat-treated). Steel is heavy compared to other materials, but it is a very strong material. Therefore, it is resistant to wind and has the strength to support the umbrella, so it goes well with fabric and can fully express the beauty of the umbrella's tension.
It uses a natural center pole made of maple wood, which is highly durable.
