"Shosoin-re" has been renewed into a 50cm 8-rib umbrella that is also perfect as a fashion item.

This all-weather umbrella has been redesigned and released as a compact 50cm long umbrella that is easy to carry and can be used in any weather. The umbrella is made from "Shosoin-re" fabric, a Nishijin-ori reproduction of the oldest pattern in Japan that is still preserved in the Shosoin Repository at Todaiji Temple, and is treated with waterproof and UV-resistant coatings.

The crafts, dyed textiles and other treasures stored in Shosoin are called "Shosoin Gire" and the patterns on them are called Shosoin patterns. As they originated from treasures brought from Persia, China and other countries, many of them feature intricate oriental designs, exuding a splendid and elegant beauty.

Umbrellas with "Shosoin pattern" that can be easily coordinated with both kimonos and western clothes

The traditional fabric combines four different patterns, each with its own story, with traditional Japanese colors that can also be used as accent colors, so many customers enjoy coordinating it with their kimonos.

The long umbrella we made this time is a compact 50cm long and has eight ribs, which makes it easy to match with clothes as well as kimonos.

This is a piece that you can wear to match your outfit when you go out.

Among the beautiful patterns on Shosoin textiles are seasonal plants and animals that were considered to be prestigious, and by deciphering their meaning, we can learn about ancient Japanese customs and religious views.
There are four different patterns on the umbrellas this time. We will introduce each one to you.

Goat pattern

The pattern features goats surrounding a plant called kaki.
Goats are animals that played an important role in nomadic life and have been depicted with the hope of representing a "wishing for a rich life."

Grape arabesque pattern

This pattern features grape vines, grass, and fruit. Grapes are used as a symbol of immortal life, and arabesque patterns are used as a symbol of longevity and prosperity of descendants.

Mandarin duck arabesque pattern

This pattern features two mandarin ducks facing each other within an arabesque pattern.
The "mandarin duck" in the name "mandarin duck" refers to male and the "duck" refers to female, and the phrase is also used to describe a loving couple.

Lion pattern

Four lions are depicted circling the floral arabesque. In ancient Persia, lions were worshiped as a symbol of the sun and kings, and as a source of life.

Nishijin-ori, a yarn-dyed fabric from Kyoto

Nishijin-ori is a yarn-dyed fabric woven in Kyoto Prefecture.

Nishijin is the name of the area in the northwest of Kyoto (Kamigyo Ward and Kita Ward).

It is said that the name Nishijin-ori came about after the Onin War during the Muromachi period.

There are many different types of Nishijin-ori, but they are characterized by their gorgeous patterns made with multi-colored threads.

A waterproof parasol for both rain and shine

The fabric of "Shosoin-re" is treated with UV protection (ultraviolet ray protection).

It is also water-repellent and water-resistant.

In addition to its full functionality as a parasol,
This is a rain and sun umbrella that can also be used as a rain umbrella.

(When using the umbrella for a long period of time,
Rainwater may seep through the umbrella fabric.)
