    Isa mon-yo : Series Concept

A fresh and innovative Isa mon-yo that breathes life into the modern age

This series makes use of the traditional techniques of stencil dyeing and uses cotton furoshiki fabric that is the first of its kind in Japan to be dyed on both sides. The numerous patterns created by the Isa mon-yo Research Institute (founded by Isara Hisani) since the 1940s have been passed down through the ages. Enjoy the contrast between the front and back, dyed in different patterns and colors.

Sun and rain umbrella A waterproof parasol for both rain and shine

The fabric is treated to cut UV rays (protect against ultraviolet rays) as well as to be water-repellent and water-resistant. This is a rain and sun umbrella that can be used primarily as a parasol but can also be used as an umbrella in the rain. (If used for a long time in heavy rain, rainwater may seep through the umbrella fabric.)

    About the fabric

    Japanese traditional technique "katae-zome"

Stencil dyeing begins with pasting a sketch of the design to be dyed onto Japanese paper and then carving it into a stencil.
Place the stencil on top of the fabric and then apply glue on top.
The parts that have been coated with glue are protected from dye, so once the glue has dried the pattern parts are dyed and this process is repeated to complete the pattern.
This dyeing method is suitable for creating small and intricate patterns, and is one of the dyeing techniques called stencil dyeing that has been used in Japan since ancient times.

Traditional patterns revived through hand-dyed "double-sided dyeing"

The furoshiki fabric used is dyed with the Isara motif, a design born from the traditional "katae-zome" technique, using a "double-sided dyeing" method in which the front and back are dyed with different colors and patterns.
This material is then waterproofed and craftsmen make it into an umbrella, resulting in an umbrella with the "Isara pattern".

A stylish umbrella bag with a furoshiki-like design

This is a stylish and functional folding umbrella that comes in a furoshiki-style umbrella bag that can be tied to the handle of a bag. With its traditional Japanese design, it is also recommended as a gift.

    About the handle

    Lightweight, non-slip bamboo handle

The handle is made of bamboo, which is very familiar in Japan, and has been burnt to create a compact shape. It has many joints, so it is not slippery when held, and is hollow inside, so it is very light. It comes with a genuine leather tassel of the same color, which gives it a luxurious feel.

The combination of light and compact fabric, ribs and handles creates a high-quality yet lightweight folding umbrella. The sturdy bi-fold design and beautiful umbrella shape are also appealing.

    • You can carry your umbrella without having to fold it.

This folding umbrella is designed so that the tip of the umbrella fits into a groove in the handle, so you can carry it with the ribs extended.
