    Aoi : Series Concept

Beautiful two-tone fabric with striped accents

The fabrics in this series are made by weaving two-color yarn-dyed yarns in a chambray weave, which gives them a glossy look like jewel beetles and changes color depending on the angle. The edges are woven with a stylish short stripe pattern, making this a simple yet stylish fabric with a playful touch. Another attractive feature is that it is lightweight because it is a single weave.

Rain and sun umbrella UV-cut umbrella

The fabric is water-repellent, water-resistant, and UV-resistant. In addition to being fully functional as an umbrella, this umbrella can also be used as a parasol, making it a versatile umbrella for both rain and shine. The UV protection and shading rates vary slightly depending on the color, but all colors have a UV protection rate of over 95%.

    About the fabric

"Koshu-ori" is attractive for its lustrous sheen and solid feel

The fabric used is "Koshu-ori," which is intricately woven in Yamanashi Prefecture, a famous textile production region with a history of over 400 years.
Koshu-ori is a "pre-dyed" fabric made by weaving extremely fine yarns that have been dyed beforehand into a high density, uniform weave.

This has resulted in a glossy, deep color and an elegant, heavy texture, and the product still boasts high quality today.
The weaving technique that uses double yarn (twisted yarn) for the warp and single yarn (one thread) for the weft is characteristic of Yamanashi textiles, resulting in a fabric that combines luxury and durability.

The production of Koshu-ori fabric begins at a dyer's shop, where the threads are dyed, then goes through a warper, where the threads are arranged into warp threads, before being sewn into fabric at a weaver's shop.
The fabric is carefully woven over a long period of time, and is then treated to be water-repellent, water-resistant, and UV-resistant, before it can finally be used as an umbrella.
In this way, the fabric that has been made by many people is then cut and sewn by craftsmen to make into umbrellas.

Fabric woven on a rare narrow shuttle loom

Fabric woven on a small-width loom, which has become extremely rare among looms, is made by looming the weft thread with a shuttle and folding it back at the edge as it is woven, which creates selvedge at the edge of the fabric.
Since there is no need to sew a large piece of fabric to fit the width of the umbrella, there are no perforations, so it looks smart and stylish, and you don't have to worry about fraying even if you use it for a long time.

Also, because the shuttle loom moves slowly and carefully, making a clanging sound, it takes longer than usual to finally complete a piece of fabric.

    Eco-friendly outlet products

This product is an outlet item that has been made into an umbrella using fabric and handles that originally had weaving defects and stains.
Koshu-ori fabric is slowly woven on a very rare narrow shuttle loom. Because the cloth is woven in an environment that changes with the temperature and humidity of the day, even a single thread that goes wrong will leave a flaw in the fabric. Even if the flaw is barely noticeable, if it does not meet the standards, it will be discarded.
We wondered if we could reuse these materials and deliver them to our customers as environmentally friendly upcycled products, and this is how these umbrellas were born. We are selling them at a much lower price than usual, but the manufacturing process remains the same, and our craftsmen make each umbrella with great care.
*Gift wrapping is not available. Please note that this product is not covered by the one-year free warranty.

    About the handle

    Short handle for easy carrying

We use highly durable white ash, which grows in North America.
It features a beautiful white color and beautiful wood grain.
The handle is shorter than a regular umbrella, making it easier to carry around.

    名入れについて : No

    • A 50cm long umbrella that can be used by both adults and children.

We used fabric from the popular "Aoi" series of ladies' umbrellas that had some scratches, combined a 50cm long rib with a short handle, and made a cute short-sized umbrella that can be used in both rain and shine. The total length is 72cm, so it can be used by women as well as children around 120cm tall.

    • Rokuro winding and dowel winding

The part that moves up and down when opening and closing the umbrella is called the "rokuro" and the joint part of the bone is called the "dabo."
The process of protecting each of these parts with the umbrella fabric is called "rokuromaki" and "dabomaki," and each part is carefully attached and covered to protect your hands when opening the umbrella and to prevent damage to the ribs, while also creating a traditional beauty and sense of luxury.
This is an old-fashioned technique that is time-consuming and therefore not seen much these days, but all of Komiya Shoten's long umbrellas are equipped with it.

    • Ribs and center pole

The ribs are made of steel (iron that has been heat-treated). Steel is heavy compared to other materials, but it is a very strong material. Therefore, it is resistant to wind and has the strength to support the umbrella, so it goes well with fabric and can fully express the beauty of the umbrella's tension.
It uses a natural center pole made of maple wood, which is highly durable.
