Umbrella handle types
The types of handles used for umbrellas
We have grouped them below by style, material, and processing method.
We will introduce them in order.
① Umbrella handle style | ||
---|---|---|
Long umbrella handle In many cases, the center rod and the handle are completely glued together. The most commonly used shape is the curved type. |
Two-fold umbrella handle Many of them are removable with screws. There are also long cylindrical types and ones with curved handles. |
Mini umbrella handle Many of them are removable with screws. Most of them are short and cylindrical, giving them a compact impression. |
The handles of long umbrellas are generally curved.
To attach our handles, we use cotton thread and a special adhesive to firmly attach them to the main body.
The handles of folding umbrellas vary slightly in size between two-fold umbrellas and mini umbrellas, but the screw-type handle is commonly used.
② Handle material and material name | |||
---|---|---|---|
Plastics: Acrylic, polystyrene, etc. | Natural wood: maple, oak, rattan, ego, bamboo, etc. | Metals Brass, zinc alloy, aluminum alloy, etc. | Synthetic leather made of vinyl chloride and polyurethane material. Core = wood, plastic, etc. |
The handle materials are mainly plastic, natural wood, metal, and synthetic leather.
Plastic is easy to process and only requires painting once.
Another characteristic is that they often have a lightweight handle.
The appeal of natural wood is its natural texture and feel.
The handle is the most time-consuming part of the knife, as it requires 4 to 5 coats of paint to soak into the wood.
Metal can create a unique texture and a stylish look.
Synthetic leather allows for free design and is highly water-resistant.
③ Handle processing method | |||
---|---|---|---|
There are various types of processing, such as hand cutting, drawing, carving, and finishing (processing wood and plastic). | Plastic processing (molding) Plastic is poured into a mold to form the shape. High-precision design processing is possible. |
Metal processing (casting) Molten metal is poured into a mold to create a slender relief pattern. |
Bending process: A processing method in which natural wood is bent using steam. |
The main processing methods are as described above, and by combining these, a single handle is completed.
For example, the wooden handle is first bent, then carved.
It is completed after finishing processes such as painting.
If you want to attach a metal part to the bottom of the wooden handle,
The metal is processed into a shape, and then attached to a wooden handle to complete the product.
