Umbrella fabric varieties

We have compiled a list of the main types of fabric used for umbrellas, categorized by texture, composition, and design.
We will introduce them in order.

① Fabric structure
Plain weave Plain weave Twill Twill Satin weave Satin weave

Umbrella fabric is mainly woven in plain weave, twill weave, and satin weave.
The Koshu fabrics used in our standard "Kasane" are often twill or satin weaves.
Compared to plain weave, which has a flat-looking surface, this weave gives the fabric a glossy appearance and shadows on the surface, giving it a deeper look.
By combining these weaves, it is possible to change the look of the fabric.

② Fabric composition (material)
polyester nylon cotton silk hemp

Nylon was previously used as the fabric for rain and sun umbrellas, but now polyester is more commonly used.
The fabrics commonly used for parasols and umbrellas that can be used in both rain and shine are cotton, silk, and linen.
Other materials that may be used include a blend of polyester and cotton (synthetic fiber + natural fiber) and a blend of cotton and linen (natural fiber + natural fiber).

③ Fabric design
Plain dyed fabric: Fabric that has been dyed after it has been woven. Fabric with various patterns dyed onto the surface using a pattern dyeing (textile printing) fabric mold. Yarn-dyed (pre-dyed) fabric: Fabric woven from dyed yarn in solid or checked stripes. Embroidered fabric with a three-dimensional pattern created by sewing thread onto the surface.

The fabric makes up a large part of the image of an umbrella, and is what gives the umbrella its fashionable appeal.
In addition to the common designs introduced here, there are umbrellas with a variety of other designs.
