Names of umbrella parts

Umbrellas are made up of many different parts. We will introduce the names of these parts using our ``Kasane'' 55cm 16-piece long umbrella as an example.

Komiya Shoten Umbrella Parts Names

Rib: The main bone that is in contact with and supports the umbrella fabric. The size of the umbrella is indicated by the length of this bone.
Support bone...the bone that supports the main rib.
Center pole: The pole located in the center of the umbrella.
Handle (grip): The handle you hold when opening the umbrella.
Upper wheel...The part that connects the tip of the rib and the center rod
Lowering rod: A part that connects the ribs to the center rod to open and close the umbrella.
Rokuro wrapping...A method of covering the wheel part with fabric to protect your fingers when opening the umbrella.
Upper handle: A metal fitting that holds the lower handle when opening an umbrella
Shimohajiki: A metal fitting that holds the lower handle when closing an umbrella
Tip of the rib
Dowel: The joint that connects the rib and the support rib
Dabo wrapping...A manufacturing method in which the dabo is covered with fabric to prevent friction between the dabo and the umbrella fabric.
Top paper...A circular piece of cloth that prevents friction of the umbrella fabric on the upper wheel.
Name band...a band to hold the tip of the nail together
Name band on the body...a band that holds the umbrella together
Chrysanthemum seat: The part that holds the top of the umbrella fabric together. This fabric prevents the fabric from wearing out, and was named after its resemblance to the shape of a chrysanthemum.
Jingasa: In the case of long umbrellas, this is the part that is placed over the chrysanthemum seat. Its purpose is to prevent water from getting through the ferrule, and it was named after its resemblance to the shape of a jinbaori.
Ferrule...A part that prevents wear on the tip of the umbrella.
