Hello. This is Kato (☺) working at the store .
It's already been a month since our first Valentine's Day project.
You probably had a feeling about it back then (lol), and as you probably guessed, the second installment is a White Day project called "The Komiya Umbrella I want" !!
This time we will deliver it in two parts, the first and second parts.
The first part was chosen by a female craftsman in her 20s who works in Komiya's workshop, from the perspective of a craftsman.
"We made it! The most wanted umbrella from Komiya Shoten" Check out the artisan edition !
Let's start with Kaine, a lovely girl whose first name is written as "Umi-ne" but pronounced as "Kaine."
The umbrella that craftsman Kaine chose is...
"Miratore Folding Umbrella 60cm x 10 Ribs Red"
"The Miratore 60cm folding umbrella I want is a nice color and a little larger, so it's safe. The Miratore umbrella I already have was a gift from my teacher. When I used it, I really felt how well the highly water-repellent Miratore umbrella drained water. And more than anything, I chose this umbrella because it's great at keeping not only myself, but also those around me dry, even on crowded trains." His personality shows.
And now, here come some expert comments!
"Miratore fabric is difficult to stretch, so you have to be careful about the length of the pattern."
A mold is a wooden model used to cut fabric.
In fact, this shape is the biggest factor in determining the shape of the umbrella, and it is the soul of the craftsman = the heart of the umbrella (I will talk about this later…)
The umbrella type that determines the shape:

Next is Matsumuro, who looks great with short hair.
The umbrella that craftsman Matsumuro chose is...
"Plaid" long umbrella with checkered lining
☺ The umbrella comes in three colors: Loden Green, Blue, and Red. "They're all cute! I want to change them depending on my mood that day," she said in a charming comment. "The check pattern is easy to hold and goes with anything, and the name tag that holds the umbrella is the same check pattern as the lining."
One artisan's comment was, "While this umbrella fabric is easy to sew, it tends to sag after being stretched, so it was difficult to create the shape."
"We remade the molds over and over again out of cardboard to resemble wooden molds (we checked the progress after stretching the fabric a few days later and then remade it again...) before deciding on the final wooden mold," and once again it was clear just how important the mold was.
And finally, a heart-warming comment: "I feel attached to an umbrella when I make it myself and feel that it was well made!"
I would like to deliver this to someone somewhere who is using an umbrella that Matsumuro made.

And finally, the third young craftsman is this guy in his 20s!
Miyato is my last name.
The umbrella that craftsman Miyato chose is...
"Border Flower Long Umbrella Pearl White"
(This product is no longer available.)☺When it comes to Miyato, everything he says comes from a craftsman's perspective.
"Border Flower is a soft fabric with good elasticity, so it's easy to stretch." However, it seems there is a story behind the pattern... Apparently it was made by modifying a pattern given to him by his master. The tricky part is that even if you use the same pattern, you won't get the same umbrella shape as your master made. There are also hidden difficulties with the fabric that I could never have imagined, as "it's hard to tell the front from the back of the Border Flower fabric, so you have to match the border pattern with the adjacent frame and sew together." On the other hand, there is also a lucky thing that you can only find out by cutting the roll of fabric! I was told that "the red floral pattern on the fabric sometimes forms a heart♥!" It looks just like a four-leaf clover. I have to check out the umbrellas in the store right away! Perfect for White Day?
"It's light to hold, and I'd like to use a white umbrella like this even on rainy days," said Miyato.
Thank you to everyone for your cooperation despite the work!
This has been brought to you from the workshop where radio is playing.
The umbrellas they were making that day were Komiya's signature "Kasane" series.
