A collaborative product project between Sugata Katachi, Japan's only manufacturer of handmade wooden door handles, and Komiya Shoten will go on sale from today.
Sugata Katachi's products are inspired by the refined "gestures" that Japanese people have traditionally had. They have been adopted by JR Kyushu's cruise train Seven Stars in Kyushu, a five-star resort hotel in the French Alps, and luxury boutiques in Paris, Milan, London, and Brussels, and have received high praise from architects and designers in 12 countries around the world.
The concept of Sugata Katata, "shapes born from living forms," is imbued with the desire to create beautiful living spaces through the gestures of the user.

By adding emphasis to basic actions that we don't usually think about, such as holding an umbrella in our hand and gripping it, we may be able to add a little something to our everyday lives, which are made up of a series of gestures.
This project was born from this idea.
Sugata Katachi's classic series "Diamond," which is usually developed as coat hangers and doorknobs, has been arranged as a handle for a folding umbrella as a special order for this project.
As the name suggests, the 20 intricate cuts reminiscent of diamonds are all handmade by door handle master Yasushi Takahashi.
The beautiful glow and deep shadows emitted by the piece depending on the light create the soft contrast that only wood can provide, and its unique presence is full of style, like that of an art object.
By using the finest hardwoods such as cherry, oak and birdseye maple, we have achieved a soft grip that is unimaginable given its sharp edges, and it has excellent grip.

What is "Sugatakatachi"?
Founded in 2012 by contemporary artist Yasushi Takahashi, who has won numerous art competitions both in Japan and abroad, and textile artist Makiko Takahashi, the company is Japan's first manufacturer specializing in high-end handmade wooden door handles.
