If the water repellent coating on your favorite umbrella starts to wear off, use a water repellent spray to maintain it.

Hello everyone.
From now on, the staff of Komiya Shoten will be blogging irregularly about their work, daily lives and other topics, so please continue to follow us.
Today I am Sasaki, a sales staff member at Komiya Shoten, and I've been with the company for two years.

Well, it's already been a year since I started working at Komiya Shoten.
As a staff member, I am always happy to be able to help customers find an umbrella that they will cherish and use for a long time.
We are truly grateful that so many customers have visited our Higashi-Nihonbashi shop even during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Customers who visit our shop ask many questions about maintenance because they want to use their umbrellas for a long time.
Especially if you have been using an umbrella for many years, you may be concerned about its water repellency.
The water-repellent properties of the umbrella decrease due to dirt and rainwater accumulating at the folds of the umbrella, oils and sweat from your hands when folding the umbrella, and hand cream left on the umbrella. As you use the umbrella, the water-repellent properties will inevitably decrease little by little.

So today, I would like to show you how to spray a water repellent spray on your umbrella when the water repellent coating has worn off, using my own umbrella.
The umbrella that I sprayed the water repellent spray on this time is... Plaid - Long Umbrella 60cm 8 Ribs

All colors have a very elegant feel, combined with the glossiness that is unique to Koshu weaving. The checkered pattern on the inside of the umbrella is just the right size, making it a recommended umbrella that even adults can carry casually.

Now, under the supervision of the repair technician, we will immediately spray it with water repellent spray.
This will be held outdoors, so it's best to do it on a sunny, calm day.

1. First, gently rinse the surface of the umbrella with the shower to remove any invisible dust or dirt.

2. After drying thoroughly in the shade, we are finally ready to start.
First, I had a professional (repair technician) show me a sample.
Stand upwind and spray the surface of the fabric evenly with a water repellent spray from a distance of at least 30cm.
(*Please use a fluorine-based spray. Also, follow the instructions on the spray. If used incorrectly, it may stain the umbrella fabric, so please be careful.)

I decided to try it partway through.
Even though I was working slowly, it took me less than three minutes to complete one revolution.

3. Dry in the shade for approximately 6 hours or more until completely dry. Then it's done!
The areas where the water repellency had faded have also been restored.

Once the water repellency improves, I'll be looking forward to using it on rainy days again.
With it being difficult to go out these days, many people are spending more time at home.
Why not take this opportunity to take good care of your umbrella?
