Although it is later than usual, the cherry blossoms have finally begun to bloom and it is finally starting to warm up in Tokyo.
How are you all doing?
There is a big park near my house with lots of cherry trees.
Every morning on my way to work, I look forward to seeing the cherry blossoms blooming little by little.
A product perfect for spring, the "katakata Leaf All-Rain Folding Umbrella," was recently released.
This product is a collaborative project between Komiya Shoten and "kata kata," a husband-and-wife unit made up of Takeshi Matsunaga and Chie Takai, who produce original dyed fabrics using techniques such as stencil dyeing and chusen dyeing.

We have also created a gift package using recycled washi paper that was used during the "hogushiori" printing process to create the fabric for this umbrella.
Here it is▼.

As these are upcycled products there will be some individual differences such as fading of colour, but with katakata's lovely design transferred onto them, they make the perfect packaging for a small gift.
Please see the special page "Leaf designs on umbrella fabric" here
This packaging can be used in a variety of ways besides wrapping long items like umbrellas, so today I would like to briefly introduce some ways you can arrange it.
The first thing we'd like to introduce is the candy box.
If you cut the gift package in half, it becomes the perfect size for an envelope to put a letter in or a bag to hand out sweets.
It is also recommended as a small gift to greet people in the new year or to thank them for their help.
Next, we will introduce the "book cover".
It can be made to fit the size of the book, and you can feel the soft texture of the Japanese paper every time you turn the page.
You can also use the envelope as wrapping paper when opened.
My grandmother said she uses it to repaper the shoji screens at home.
This will also give your home a new atmosphere and make you feel better.
The paper is sturdy, so please feel free to experiment with different arrangements based on your ideas.
