Among Komiya Shoten's all-weather umbrellas, the "Isara Pattern Series" which uses furoshiki wrapping cloth, are umbrellas that are increasingly being purchased each year with the arrival of spring.
Yesterday, I visited the new product exhibition of the manufacturer that makes these furoshiki, where I was given a warm welcome and a detailed explanation.
When I looked at the back of the sample furoshiki as an umbrella, as I usually do, everyone was surprised and said, "Wow! It turns out to be a color like that!" It's a strange habit of umbrella makers, but I explained to them that if you hold the fabric up against something, it will look different, and it made a big impression on me how surprised they were.
The unique blend of colors dyed on both sides gives this umbrella a mysterious charm that can only be felt when you are inside, and it is well received every year.
The recital will be held until March 8th (Friday) at Daikanyama Hillside Terrace Annex A, open from 10am to 6pm. The venue is behind the former Asakura family residence.
Thank you for once again teaching me about the appeal and possibilities of furoshiki.
