Do you know the origin of Bakuroyokoyama Station?

The nearest station to Komiya Shoten is Bakuroyokoyama Station.
Even if you live in Tokyo, there may be some people who can't read the station name and wonder, "Bakuro Yokoyama???"

Did you know that inside the Toei Shinjuku Line station, there is a statue of a horse with an explanation of the origin of the station name? The tile painting in the background is also wonderful!

During the Edo period, there was a horse riding ground here, which was used by the shogunate horse trader Bakuro Because it was managed by the head, it came to be called Bakuro-cho, and this eventually became Bakuro-cho.
(By the way, a bakuro is an intermediary who buys and sells cattle and horses.)
Yokoyama-cho is located to the south of Bakuro-cho, and due to the influence of Yokoyama-cho, which was already a wholesale district, Bakuro-cho developed as a wholesale district, and the two place names were combined to form the name Bakuroyokoyama Station.

Komiya Shoten also sells umbrellas with pictures of horses on them.

There is a horseshoe mark on the handle.

A 65cm, 16-rib, black and silver men's umbrella made from layered Koshu weave fabric.
